Lettering League

The Makery, 123 S Fraser St, State College, PA 16801, USAJoin Shannon with Wright Lettering monthly on the last Thursday for a laid back gathering with fellow letter lovers. Whether you're a lettering newbie or expert, this will be a fun time of creating and connecting. Bring your own supplies for a lettering project, practice sheets, lettering questions, or just a blank journal to doodle in and a beverage of your choice!
While this isn't an instructed class, I will sprinkle in themes here and there (for those interested!) and bring fun pens, markers and other mediums for those interested in exploring and expanding their lettering knowledge.
Drop in for one session or join for the whole year at a discounted rate. This time is set aside as a creative gathering time, not an instructed class, and that is reflected in the registration cost.
Each session is held on the last Thursday of the month except for: Tuesday November 24 and Thursday December 17.

Gelli Printing Basics Workshop $35

This is a single-session 3 hour workshop at The Makery in State College
In this workshop, you will learn the basic techniques of how to use Gelli plates to create complex monoprints by layering acrylic paints.
In this workshop you will learn how to use a resist method to transfer magazine prints, or laser-printed images onto a Gelli plate. Next, we will add acrylic paint layers on top of our transferred images using stencils, and other creative materials. Finally, we will pull all of the combined layers onto a single monoprint.
We will learn, create, experiment, and have fun in this introduction to Gelli printing.

Collage Club

The Makery, 123 S Fraser St, State College, PA 16801, USAJoin us this monthly adult offering of art making and connection! We’ll rip, cut, stick, draw, paint, and have lots of fun while we’re at it.
Please plan to bring a 2-D project and materials of your choice. This could be a sketchbook, a canvas, or any other surface you like. Collage Club is a time to flex your creativity in a low-stress, low-stakes way. We love to make stuff with paper and hope you will too.
We’ll have basic supplies on hand (glue, scissors, some collage papers) but ask that guests come with their own supplies.
Please note: this is an opportunity for gathering and connection - not an instructed class - that is reflected in the registration cost.
We hope you’ll come for the making and stay for the community 🙂

$10 Marketing and Branding for Artists Workshop
At The Makery in Downtown State College, PA
This is a single-session 3 hour workshop
Artists have a unique challenge when demonstrating the value of their work. The moment a person decides to sell their artwork, the marketing and branding process begins. The goal is to show the value of what is being offered and ultimately, to sell pieces of art.
This workshop will help artists to understand how to create consistent messaging, and value in their individual brand. The following topics will be covered in this workshop:
Creating/Building your brand
Messaging/Communication Strategy
Value-Proposition
Pricing
Strategic and Tactical Planning
This workshop is designed to empower artists and provide them the tools to create value for their work. A strong focus of this workshop will be a discussion on how to create value, while building a consistent and authentic brand. Expect a collaborative discussion with specific examples. Questions and discussion are both welcome and highly recommended throughout this workshop.

After School Maker Club

Elementary school aged children (Kindergarten and up) are invited to join us on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 PMat The Makery. We'll be encouraging creativity and individual expression while using a variety of art mediums and techniques to create process art.
The club will meet 5 times from September 16-October 21 (no class October 14). Cost: $80
Please include the name and age of the child in the "notes" section of the order summary when registering. Doors will open 10 minutes prior to class to allow time to sign in and get settled.

Hand Lettering 101

The Makery, 123 S Fraser St, State College, PA 16801, USAHave you ever wanted to learn the basics of hand lettering? If you answered yes, then this class is for you!
This class is the perfect beginner hand lettering class. At Hand Lettering 101 we'll go over all the basics of hand lettering and include lots of practice prompts to help you learn. This class will teach you how to use the writing skills you already have (no matter what your hand writing looks like!) and you'll be hand lettering like a pro in no time. Attendees will have the option of practicing during the class with pencils, markers, or brush pens (or all three!) depending on your comfort level.
All the supplies you need to practice hand lettering during the class will be provided and you will receive a digital copy of all materials to continue practicing after the class. As part of your registration, you’ll receive a packet of information printed and digital that includes the basics we’ll go over in class, tips and tricks, sample alphabets, and practice pages. A Tombow Lettering in Color kit (a $35 value) with various sized brush pens can be included in your registration fee if desired.
This class is scheduled for September 17, 2026 at the Makery in Downtown State College from 6:30-8pm. This class is part of Hand Lettering Boot Camp, but can be registered for individually if you do not need to take all 3 classes at this time.

Hand Lettering Boot Camp (Fall Session 1)

This three part course will teach you how to use the writing skills you already have (no matter what your hand writing looks like!) to hand lettering like a pro in no time. In each session, we will work through a themed hand lettering workbook created by Shannon at Wright Lettering. At the first session we'll go over all the basics of hand lettering, learn to use a brush pen, and practice lower case script letters and words. The second session explores upper case letters and how to flourish your words. The final session culminates with ways to style words. All three workbooks include lots of practice prompts to help you learn.
Included with your registration will be printed and digital copies of each workbook (three total), a Tombow Lettering in Color kit (a $35 value) with various sized brush pens, and expert advice from Shannon.
Hand Lettering Boot Camp is scheduled for September 17, 2026, October 15, 2026, and November 12, 2026, from 6:30-8pm.

Tween and Teen Bead and Clay Club

Join us for our open-studio style Bead & Charm Club! This isn't a structured class—it’s a vibrant creative hang where you get to be the designer. We’ll provide a massive treasure trove of high-quality supplies, including glass beads, metal and polymer clay charms, and all the essential jewelry findings. You'll have total creative freedom to design and create your own custom earrings, necklaces, or charm bracelets. While there is no formal step-by-step instruction, our experienced jewelry instructor will be on-hand the entire time to share pro tips, tricks, and guide you through using the basic tools. Come with friends, hang out, and leave with your new favorite custom accessories!
