Hand Lettering for Teens

The Makery, 123 S Fraser St, State College, PA 16801, USAThis class is the perfect beginner hand lettering class for teens 12 and older. We'll go over all the basics of hand lettering with lots of practice prompts. This class will teach teens how to use the writing skills they already have (no matter what their hand writing looks like!) and they'll be hand lettering like a pro in no time. Attendees will have the option of practicing during the class with pencils, markers, or brush pens (or all three!) depending on their comfort level. This class will use Shannon's adult Hand Lettering 101 workbook, but the teaching fun and geared towards teens.
All the supplies needed to practice hand lettering during the class will be provided and you will receive a digital copy of all materials to continue practicing after the class. As part of the registration fee, you’ll receive a packet of information printed and digital that includes the basics we’ll go over in class, tips and tricks, sample alphabets, and practice pages. A Tombow Lettering in Color kit (a $35 value) with various sized brush pens can be included in the fee if desired.
This class is scheduled for June 25, 2026 at the Makery in Downtown State College from 4:30-6:00pm.

Lettering League

The Makery, 123 S Fraser St, State College, PA 16801, USAJoin Shannon with Wright Lettering monthly on the last Thursday for a laid back gathering with fellow letter lovers. Whether you're a lettering newbie or novice, this will be a fun time of creating and connecting. Bring your own supplies for a lettering project, practice sheets, lettering questions, or just a blank journal to doodle in and a beverage of your choice!
While this isn't an instructed class, I will sprinkle in themes here and there (for those interested!) and bring fun pens, markers and other mediums for those interested in exploring and expanding their lettering knowledge.
Drop in for one session or join for the whole year at a discounted rate. This time is set aside as a creative gathering time, not an instructed class, and that is reflected in the registration cost.
Each session is held on the last Thursday of the month except for: Tuesday November 24 and Thursday December 17.

Following days will focus on upper case letters, flourishing words and adding style to words. We will split our time between practicing and creating different projects each day with various writing utensils and mediums. Some projects during the week will include a chalkboard sign, painted canvas, and card making.
Each camper will receive their very own lettering starter kit with brush pens, a pencil, eraser, ruler, & journal.

Explore the vibrant world of polymer clay surface design! In this session, we’ll focus on the artistry of Colors and Textures, teaching you how to add intricate depth and tactile patterns to polymer clay earrings and pendants using stencils and texture mats and rollers. You’ll experiment with metallic powders, color-shift pigments, and chalk pastels to create stunning, colorful designs that pop. Whether you’re looking for a vibrant or shimmering look, you’ll leave with two custom pairs of earrings (or pendants) and the skills to transform simple clay into textured masterpieces.

Writers will spend time outside writing as the weather permits and we will plan one day to write at Penn State Arboretum. We love to explore campus and downtown locations for nature, art, and culture-inspired writing. This camp is for young women and non-binary identifying writers ages 12+ with an interest in writing.July 20-24th from 1:00-3:30 p.m.
Note that there is a sewing camp for teens 9AM-12PM if your teen would like to spend a full day of camp at The Makery. Campers would bring their lunch.

Creative Writing Camp
July 22, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
This camp is for creative writers of all kinds. We will play with prose, poetry, fiction and memoir. We will work independently and in small groups and/or with partners.
Writers will spend time outside writing as the weather permits and we will plan one day to write at Penn State Arboretum. We love to explore campus and downtown locations for nature, art, and culture-inspired writing. This camp is for young women and non-binary identifying writers ages 12+ with an interest in writing.July 20-24th from 1:00-3:30 p.m.
Note that there is a sewing camp for teens 9AM-12PM if your teen would like to spend a full day of camp at The Makery. Campers would bring their lunch.
